Anchorage Alaska

Anchorage has been a great place to live. There are many job opportunities, fun things to do, and it is full of great people. I am here to stay.

Although Anchorage is the most populated city in Alaska, it still has that small town feel. Alaska is huge, but since Anchorage is the main hub, it is not uncommon to run into people that you know from other far away parts of the State. To the west is the inlet, to the east is Chugach State Park,  to the north there is a huge military base [link to JBER the joint military base] and to the south Anchorage is pinched off by Turnagain Arm (an arm of the inlet). This lack of space to expand the city has lead to the building of a lot of multifamily homes, condos and townhouses. It has been called “Los Anchorage” by people living outside of Anchorage because of what seem to be crowded conditions, but I am sure Anchorage only seems crowded compared to living in the bush. Here in Anchorage we are about an hour drive from the wilderness, but we have all the amenities of big city life.

Alaskans get more pork signed into our congressional bills than than any other state in the union gets per-capita. I know this should not seem like a bragging right, but it has led to well maintained highways and infrastructure. Anchorage has also received many gifts from the big oil companies to help build an extensive biking and skiing trail system [link to Anchorage maps], and they even helped fund the library. There are many free market business minded people that recognize the opportunities in Alaska, so I am optimistic about Alaska’s, and Anchorage’s economic future.

This is a great place to visit. Many people who visit end up staying for good, leaving us with a population of people from all over the United States, and from all over the world [link to Anchorage Demographics].
